I am excited to meet my new class in just a few short weeks! I know their names and cannot wait to put a face to the names on Aug. 28th. I have been working hard getting things ready for our year and it is going to be a great one.
On Friday we celebrated an amazing year of learning, laughing and bonding as a school family. We had a terrific year and I loved sharing the program with our families. We had a terrific turnout, thank you to all who made it. The kinders were VERY excited to perform their songs, the program and to watch the video with their families. They had excellent behavior for the program and it was most definitely a "proud teacher moment". We have three and a half more days to spend together as kindergartners and then this group of 17 will be new Forest Glen first graders.
Friday marked the last day of the 3rd quarter. WHAT?? We are in the home stretch of our last quarter together in Kindergarten. I say it every year and will say it again, time flies. This time of the school year marks one of my favorites. Each quarter has it's high points but this quarter is an exceptionaly fun one to be a Kindergarten teacher. I see my students writing stories using spaces, good letter formation and most importantly getting their ideas down on paper and having fun doing it. Their eyes light up when I sit with them and read their writing out loud. They love being writers and although they were writers on the first day of school, their writing looks different now and is more developed. The kiddos are reading books and using strategies to solve unknown words and are questioning what they read. One of the best things is watching them be good friends to one another and develop those friendships that play such a big role in who they grow to be.
I love it when people come to visit us in room 40! Meeting our new families and having mom or dad spend time with us is such a great experience. I welcomed a few parents last week as a volunteer and love watching my kinders interact with adults. I have one student who will ask the visitor 35 questions in the first 5 minutes of walking in. She has the next question started before the first one is answered. A future reporter in my room? They love seeing the parents here and meeting their friend's mom and dad.
We are off to a great start on launching our Daily Five for our morning block of time. Students are busy reading, writing, listening to reading and working on spelling words. Love watching these kids taking the lead when it comes to technology. They are accessing apps for spelling, locating ebooks for listening and practicing typing high frequency words. Great progress is being made in Pod C at Forest Glen. Come check us out! I have a full week of the new school year in. As exciting as a new year is, it is also very tough. My new kiddos walked through the doors with bright eyes and looking a little timid. I love their little faces so eager for the day, being a big kindergartner is a pretty big deal. My former students, now 1st graders all came by to say hi and give me a hug. I love that about primary grades. I look at them feeling a bit sad.

AuthorI have been teaching for 16 years, 16 of them at my home away from home at a great school in north east WI. I love teaching and spending my days with 5 and 6 yr. olds. They make me laugh, (sometimes cry) but always ready to give me a hug at the end of the day. CategoriesArchives
