I have a full week of the new school year in. As exciting as a new year is, it is also very tough. My new kiddos walked through the doors with bright eyes and looking a little timid. I love their little faces so eager for the day, being a big kindergartner is a pretty big deal. My former students, now 1st graders all came by to say hi and give me a hug. I love that about primary grades. I look at them feeling a bit sad.
They are so confident as they walk down the hallway, knowing the school rules and expectations, reading, writing and knowing math strategies. They left me so ready for first grade and now I'm starting over with explaining what 'standing in a line' means and how to use a glue stick. That's ok, bring it on. The feeling of pride I feel for my now first graders makes these first few weeks all worth it. My new class has some great characters to add to our school community. They are already making me laugh and creating some great friendships with one another. Here's to a new year! I can't wait to watch these kids soar.
